Developing landscapes through sound

My first ever memory of creating music traces back to when I made the soundtrack for my classe's theatrical act at the school's Talent Show. Discovering it was possible to create sceneries through music changed my perception of the world for ever. Through airplane sounds, car horns and big city ambiences transitioning to soft wind breezes and birds chants, I saw the audience's imagination intrigued and incited with their most affective memoir. Recently I recieved three special invitations to create and feature in independent films of queer creators from Minas Gerais. Check it out:

House

Do Barroco Ao Barraco (2023) by A João

The agender brand A João triggers a very important discussion asking the pivotal question: How come the hands that dug the gold and built the most beautiful churches in the Minas Gerais's Baroque Era, still to these days, have not had any access to these riches? A João's collection shows bold pieces built with tradicional arabesque cut out of textiles used traditionally as blankets for homeless people and printed red angels patters adorning the body of queer models. The fashion film is shot on the streets of Ouro Preto - a historical city and capital of gold mining during the XVIII e XIX centuries - and it features local poet Tatá MC. I blended field recordings of some of the biggest Church's bells in Ouro Preto with baroque Brazilian orchestra pieces of the same era (most also written by black and mixed race people), and contemporary four o the floor beat crossing classic Brazilian instruments such as the berimbau and atabaques. As Milton Nascimento's sample reminds us: "Quem é rei sempre será" (“Those who are kings will always be kings”).

Metamórfike (2024)

An urban dystopia crossing the everyday life of a queer motorcycle courier, the Sci-fi short film Metamórfike is a captivating fiction-comedy through the lenses of Brazilian contemporary young adults. This was an excellent opportunity for me to experiment with a wide range of FX, distorted samples and sound synthesis. With the remarkable chance to create with the modular synths at NDVK Studio, I signed the whole soundtrack of the movie, including one of my released tracks "Acaiaca" at the ending credits.
